Our own Dan Alexander recently attend the annual Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (Big “I”) Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. Together with a group from the Florida Association of Insurance Agents (FAIA) they met with the offices of 6 federal lawmakers to share concerns and advocate for legislation impacting the agent and policy holders. During the meetings on Capitol Hill, they discussed the most pressing insurance issues likely to be considered during the current session of Congress. These include:
- Disaster relief funding for the Florida panhandle for damages related to last year’s major Hurricane Michael.
- Reforming and reauthorizing a long term plan for the National Flood Insurance Program
- Reauthorizing the Terrorism Risk Insurance Program (TRIP)
- Repealing the “Cadillac tax” in the Affordable Care Act and supporting the employer-sponsored health insurance system
- Supporting state-based insurance regulation
- Cybersecurity laws and their impact on small businesses
